PGA, DraftKings to open sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale
Legalized sportsbetting in Arizona would pave the way for the PGA and DraftKings to move forward with plans to open a sportsbook on the grounds of TPC Scottsdale.
Plans for the "19th hole" at TPC Scottsdale are fluid and include three potential sites. The goal is to open the book by February 2023.
DraftKings would become the formal book operator and exclusive sports betting partner of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
The PGA prohibits on-site betting at tournaments. An exception exists for year-round, on-site venues like the one planned in Scottsdale.
"'The People's Open' is one of the most attended events in golf and with this announcement we look forward to taking the fan experience to another level," Norb Gambuzza, senior vice president of media and gaming of the PGA Tour, said in a release.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is expected to sign legislation by the end of the week to fast track sportsbetting in his state.
DraftKings has a similar agreement with the Chicago Cubs to operate a book and betting windows at Wrigley Field. William Hill has the same rights with the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena.
