Report: Meyer nearing deal to join Fox team

Recently retired Ohio State coach Urban Meyer might not be ready to leave college football behind after all.

The Sporting News reported Friday that Meyer and Fox Sports are nearing a deal that would make Meyer a part of the network's college football coverage.

The 54-year-old Meyer would have his choice of working as an analyst in the studio or in the broadcast booth. It would be a return to television for Meyer, who worked as a studio analyst for ESPN in 2011 after leaving Florida and before taking the Ohio State job.

A Fox Sports spokeswoman declined to comment to the Sporting News.

Meyer walked away from Ohio State after the Buckeyes' defeat of Washington in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day. He cited health issues as the reason for his retirement, which ended a tough season that saw him suspended for the first three games over his handling of a staff member's alleged domestic violence.

He won three national championships as a coach and compiled a 187-32 record in 17 seasons at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State.

Meyer's already announced post-retirement plans involve teaching a class at Ohio State and serving as assistant athletic director.
